maybe I should include an "addiction of the week" feature on this website... in support of my efforts in being an ultra-hip trend-setter, I will give weekly announcements of what I deem supafly, whacked, totally phat, THE shiznit, or whatever it is they say meaning "cool." and maybe I'll start a consumer revolution of some sort... (I know, I know... of all the things to overthrow, why choose consumer taste. I'm such an underachiever!)
coca-cola slurpees from 7 eleven... mm... sugared water and artificial colors in a slush form... yummy... same goes for ice tickles, otter pops, and those cherry flavored triangular ice thingys they serve in elementary school.
and what's up with those razor boards? you know, the aluminum scooters that look like they'll break if you weigh more than fifty pounds? okay, I'll admit it. I wanted a scooter when I was 10, but I was stuck with roller skates. In-line skates are cool and all, but I'm still waiting for roller skates to make a come-back. yeah. that and Q-bert.
everyone made fun of me at the bowling alley for wearing plaid shorts. what can I say? I'm a mama's boy. she made them for me and I was damn proud of her creative fashion sensibility!
SO... "Mammy Boyz" brand plaid shorts (individually tailored and designed) for stick thin asian guys on roller skates sippin' on slurpees. I think it'll sell, don't you? |
Comedy scares me! |

Carlos Mencia. ugh. so Darrell heard clips from this guy's comedy act on the radio and has been dying to buy the CD... but I'm sorry. he's just not that funny. I mean, he has great talent as a comedian, great timing and all, but his material is so bunk. I mean, his whole act tries to show how people need to demolish racial sensitivity.
Fuck that.
He discourages people from interpreting media ads as insidious enforcements of racial stereotypes. He justifies it by noting how there are also a number of ads that make fun on white people. But this totally ignores the power structure of America. I mean, do budwieser commercials effectively taint the image white men when white men are the ones in power?
And then people have told me that it's okay, because Carlos Mencia is latino and "besides, he makes fun of everyone, of every race." First of all, I'm not so sure that equal opportunity racism makes racism okay. Secondly, there are gay-bashers that are gay themselves and resort to violence because they can't deal with the fact that they are queer. So, I'm not exactly sure that Mencia's racial background makes much of a difference in how damaging his act is, ya know?
But then again, I'm so hypocritical. I still listen to Dr. Dre even though he and Eminem are so intensely misogynistic! At least I still flinch when I hear the misogynistic content of their music. I'm so disturbed by people clapping and agreeing to what Mencia has to say, as if he's in a pulpit preaching the truth.
And I don't see people stopping to reflect what he's saying... or objecting. |
Porn is cool! |

Isn't Internet porn rad?
I told this to a random chat buddy in an email and I hope he doesn't get the wrong idea...
I mean, I'm not applauding it because it has spawned a generation of sticky keyboards and mice. Nor for it's ability to prompt people to learn how to efficiently jerk off left-handed while browsing with the right hand. It's the fact that what was supposed to be a government project to facilitate the access and spread of information has become a major source for the decadent and depraved industry of multimedia pornography. That's so subversive. It's like flipping the bird to government icons, ya know?
And I've always wondered if those people that are the first to cry publicly about social decadence and malaise from porn trafficking are the ones that have contributed the dollars to support the industry buy consuming its products... wouldn't surprise me... |

so I've read somewhere that the entertainment industry really does well during
economic downturns... and the theory goes that people to out to the movies, listen/buy music, etc more when they're unemployed and have time to do so...
but how does that work out financially?
would one revert to the ol' barter system? trade some oranges for a seat at the movies? maybe I could lug a cow with me to exchange for a ticket at a nine inch nails concert...
seriously, I sorta buy it. I mean, here I am looking for a job and the only thing I can think of is how much longer it'll be 'til the next harry potter book comes out... |
